    NEBOSH and what it means for your career in health and safety

    Who is NEBOSH?

    NEBOSH was founded in 1979 and stands for the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health. It offers professional qualifications in health, safety, and environmental management.

    Their qualifications are internationally recognised, and many health and safety job adverts state NEBOSH qualifications as part of the job specification because it demonstrates a high standard of knowledge and understanding.


    What training is available and why is it so important?

    The main qualifications are the NEBOSH National General Certificate and the NEBOSH Diploma, a level 6 qualification.

    NEBOSH National General Certificate

    This is by far the most popular health and safety qualification in the UK.

    There are no entry requirements for the NEBOSH National General Certificate, but if you do want to start with a basic understanding of health and safety management then we recommend completing the three-day IOSH Managing Safely course, although not essential.

    NEBOSH Diploma

    Although there are no entry requirements in order to complete the NEBOSH Diploma, we recommend completing the NEBOSH National General Certificate first. It assists in the development of professional competence and will increase your knowledge and ability to help organisations make sensible decisions in order to manage risk, meet business objectives and meet regulatory and other requirements. The NEBOSH Diploma is a university degree level qualification.
